Reminiscent of the Michelle Carter case, a Utah teen is charged first degree murder for helping a friend commit suicide on May 5, 2017. I was horrified to read what Tyerell Przybycien, 18, is accused of doing. It appears that the facts are not really in dispute. The dispute is over what to call his conduct: criminal or not. Is it murder or was his conduct non-criminal—just “helping a friend commit suicide?” According to published reports about the case, Jchandra Brown, 16, wanted to kill herself. Przybycien was more than willing to help though, on April 19, 2017, he did ask another friend what he would do with a friend who wanted to commit suicide.
