Charles “Chase” Merritt has been sitting in a San Bernardino County jail since June 2014, charged with murdering his business associate Joseph McStay, 40, and McStay’s wife, Summer, 43, and two sons, Gianni, 4, and Joseph, Jr., 3. The McStay family disappeared from their northern San Diego County home in early February 2010. Their remains were found in shallow graves in San Bernardino County in November 2013. They were apparently bludgeoned to death. McStay is charged with four counts of capital murder. He has entered a not guilty plea.
