The legal news over the weekend included the appeal of Adnan Syed of Baltimore, MD. Syed was the subject of NPR’s successful series called Serial (click to listen). Fifteen years ago, Syed was convicted of the 1999 murder of his high school girlfriend, Hae Min Lee who was found strangled in a city park. Syed had always denied he killed her. Last Friday, a Baltimore City Circuit Court judge granted a hearing to allow Syed’s attorneys to present alibi evidence as well as evidence related to the cell tower records. Syed is also challenging the adequacy of his representation at trial and alleging there was prosecutorial misconduct. The hearing must take place within 10 days. Read the decision here.
